Treatment, storyboard and script

In the previous posts are my storyboard, treatment and script to get my blog up to date. Now I have started the animation I am simplying the storyboard as there is not much time left and it was quite long and complicated.

Moodboard

I have watched the film and have decided on the scenes that I am going animate for my trailer. I have thought about the animation that I am going to create and the models that I will need to make for the animation. I have collected reference images that I will use when producing the models. I have made 3 moodboards with the reference images that I have found and taken from the film.
The first moodboard is for the scene where Bond chases Mollaka onto the crane. I will animate Bond ascending to the top of the crane on the rope and then pursuing him along the top of the crane.

The second moodboard I have created is for the scene where Bond hangs onto the fuel truck as it is heading towards the Skyfleet plane. I will animate the part where Bond jumps onto the truck and the part where it crashes through the bus.

The third moodboard is for the scene where Bond is playing poker. I will animate the cards being dealt out and they will play poker. Bond will move all his poker chips into play then Le Chiffre will look at his cards as though he is worried.

Research board

The James Bond film that I have decided I am going to create an animated trailer for is Casino Royale.

I haven’t seen the film but the name of the film and research into the plot show that it has a casino in. I thought that this would be a good film to choose as there would be a lot of things that could be modelled and animated quite simply, such as poker chips, playing cards and dice for example and these would fit with the theme of the film.

In Bond films there are lots of action sequences, car chases and shoot outs but this would be quite difficult for me to achieve in my animation as I have little experience in modelling and animation. Modelling and animating something like a car or person is a bit too advanced so I decided to go for a more abstract idea with less complicated objects and animation.

I will use other objects such as a gun and Martini glass to tie in with the Bond theme but this will be less obvious to make the animation simpler.

I have created a research board with images that I have found when researching into the film that I am going to create an animated trailer for, this is shown below.

Introduction to the module - First reaction to brief

The brief to create a 30 second animated trailer for a James Bond film sounds interesting but at the same time looks like it will be challenging. The brief allows a lot of room for creativity as there are a lot of films to choose from and different ideas you use in the animation.

I think that the modelling and animation will take a long time so good time management will be essential.

Creating a research board, mood board and storyboard will allow for my ideas to be explored but also keep them focused on the brief.

In the first 6 weeks we have to model at least three artefacts to star in the trailer and with this show three different specific modelling techniques. Having never used 3d Studio Max or 3d modelled to any great extent the task seems daunting. As I will be learning to use the software and to 3d model it will mean that I will need to reign in my ideas so that I don’t try to create something too complicated.

The three models have to be handed in so this will be a deadline to work to. The timescale seems reasonable as 6 weeks is a long time but I don’t really know how long it will take to model the artefacts.

In the second part for the final next 6 weeks we have to continue to make trailer and start animating and are expected to make use of three animating techniques. I think that the animation will be complicated as it will be animating in a 3d space making it difficult to move the models in the way that I want.
